Endometriosis Awareness Month (in some countries it is just for one week (3 -9 March
2014) - is a worldwide initiative to raise awareness of this common, chronic and
enigmatic gynecological disease, which affects approximately 176
million women of reproductive age.
Endometriosis
can present with severe symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain, pain with
menstruation, pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) and dysmenorrhea. However,
in the majority of cases endometriosis is asymptomatic in early stages.
Endometriosis
causes infertility in up to 30% of women who suffer from this disease and it carries a huge personal and social cost.
Endometriosis Week/Month aims to create a greater
awareness and understanding of endometriosis and to show inspiring examples of
living with this disease. Women with endometriosis from all over the world come
together to support each other.
Don’t hesitate to visit your gynecologist in case even minor
pelvic pain. Women must be more attentive to their health and not to put their
career on the forefront.
